Point in Motion

Objective

Point in Motion was designed for my Typography II class for the Integrated Design MA program at University of Baltimore. The objective was to create a booklet that would be paired with an exhibition displayed at the fictional Museum of Type. Point in Motion takes the reader on a historical journey through the evolution of both dance in western culture and typography and how both have progressed and transformed over time.

On a personal level, it was important to me to marry old and new passions together in this project; dance being an old activity I grew up doing while incorporating design in my current creative pursuits has become a new direction for me.

Process

I compiled researched on multiple styles of dance and typefaces from the Late Renaissance period to the beginning of the Modern era to write and edit the copy for the booklet. I also sourced images depicting each dance style to be used in the book. The copy for each spread was also designed with the typeface described for that time period to further tie everything together.
